The IEP team is a group of individuals responsible for developing, reviewing, and updating a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP team collaborates to create a plan that supports the student’s educational success and ensures they receive the services they need.

THE IEP TEAM PURPOSE
WHO MAKES UP THE IEP TEAM?
PARENTS/GUARDIANS
As parents/guardians, you know the student best! Your input on student’s strengths, needs, likes, dislikes, favorite activities, behavior at home, and goals are invaluable!
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
This person provides expertise in special education strategies and services.
GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER
If the student is in a general education setting, this teacher helps ensure the IEP supports success in a mainstream classroom.
SCHOOL DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE
Usually an administrator, special education director, or program specialist, they ensure that the school provides the necessary resources and services.
EVALUATION SPECIALISTS
This could be a school psychologist, or another professional who interprets evaluation results and helps determine eligibility and needs.
OTHER SPECIALISTS (IF NEEDED)
This may include speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavioral specialists, or other professionals depending on the student’s needs.
THE STUDENT
When appropriate, especially in transition planning (typically starting at age 16), the student participates to share their preferences and goals.
