Conservatorship is important because it protects people who can’t protect themselves.
Here’s why it matters:
Conservatorships are designed to protect individuals with disabilities who are unable to care for themselves or make decisions about their own lives.
If someone can’t make safe decisions about where they live, what medical care they need, or how they spend their money, a conservator steps in to make sure they’re not neglected, abused, or exploited.
The conservator can manage the conservatee’s finances, ensuring their needs are met and assets are protected.
A conservator can make sure the person gets the medical treatment or mental health care they need, especially if the person can’t understand or communicate what’s best for them.
It provides a stable support system. The conservator is legally responsible for acting in the best interests of the conservatee, giving some peace of mind to families and loved ones.
They provide assistance with daily living needs, such as housing, food, clothing, and healthcare.
