“Did she come with her glasses on?” That was the question of the day! Why? Because none of us saw Amanda with her glasses on, but her mom swore she sent Amanda to school with them on! I promised mom that we would look for her glasses in the classroom and that I would talk with her bus driver to see if the glasses were on the bus. I felt bad for mom because, as we all now, prescription glasses are not cheap. Amanda never liked wearing her glasses and always tried to hide them under her clothes or in her pants pocket. If she wasn’t hiding them, Amanda was trying to dispose of them. One day, her bus driver luckily caught her trying to throw her glasses out of the open window on the bus. Had Amanda managed to get away with it this time? The bus driver and I had no idea, but one thing for sure, Amanda’s glasses were not on the bus, nor were they in the classroom. Fast forward two weeks later.
“You know Terri, when we flush the toilet that Amanda sits on, the water acts like it doesn’t want to go down, it’s actually starting to rise a little before finally going down.”
“Ok, I’ll let Stephanie (our secretary) know and put in a work order request to have maintenance come out and look at the toilet.”
A couple of days later, Bob, our maintenance man, comes out to service our toilet. “Yep, there is definitely something going on with the toilet. Let me take a look.”
We clear out of the bathroom to give Bob a chance to work on the toilet. After about twenty minutes, he comes out of the bathroom and let me know that he figured out what was going on with the toilet. Apparently, the slow flush was because toilet tissue was backing up due to a blockage. And the blockage? A certain pair of not so pink anymore pair of prescription glasses!!! Yep, Amanda managed to flush her glasses down the toilet!!!
A phone call later to Amanda’s mom, “Sharon, I found your daughter’s glasses (mom, happy)… no, you might not be that happy after I tell you where they were found (mom, puzzled)… flushed down the toilet (mom, confused)… yes, flushed down the toilet (mom, surprised)… no, I am not joking you (mom, seriously)… yes, Amanda flushed them down the toilet (mom, wow)… sorry Sharon, I don’t know how we missed that one!!! Mom, that’s ok Terri, she still goin to wear them though… toilet or no toilet!!!
