I read a post titled, 35 Things You Never Thought You’d Say Until You Became a Teacher, and totally related to the post! The writer goes on to say that, for teachers, there is almost no such thing as a normal day. Students, no matter how old they are, do some pretty strange things over the course of the school day. I would like to add that, no matter the disability or how severe the disability, our students do some pretty strange and gross things over the course of the school day. As a result, we teachers do find ourselves saying things we never thought we would say. I thought I would share my top ten!!!
- Stop licking the toilet!
While sitting on the toilet, I had a student who always wanted to lean over and lick it!
- Grass/dirt is not a source of fiber!
Yes, some of our students love to eat grass and dirt.
- You know, poop really doesn’t taste that good!
Yep, there are other things to eat too!
- Stop scratching your butt!
Does it really itch that much!
- Don’t you dare sit on her head!
This student had a thing for wanting to sit on his friend’s heads if given half a chance.
- I know you are not trying to twerk!
Yep, my girl dropped it!!! Didn’t know she could!!!
- Did you just lick her?
A new way of showing affection?!?!
- He’s doing his poop wiggle again!
Yep, we always knew when this student needed to poop!
- Don’t you dare run me over!
This was in response to my student who liked to run me over in his pacer!
- Paper is not chewing gum!
There was something about that paper!!!
How about you? Help add to this list with the strangest thing you have said while working with your students!
